Gleb Kuzmin of Salavat Yulaev in the KHL suffered a horrific injury while playing against Avangard Omsk earlier this week.

As we previously reported, Kuzmin was going hard to the net when he backhanded the puck on goal. Subsequently, he was shoved into the boards and he ended up crashing into there head first. It was a very scary hit and fans were extremely worried about him, especially as he was writhing on the ground in pain.

Now, it is being revealed that Kuzmin suffered a compression fracture to his spine. He is currently in the ICU, and he may have to be transported to another hospital for surgery.

This is a very serious injury and there are concerns about whether or not he will ever play hockey again. Although we're sure that is the last thing on his mind right now. Any kind of injury to the spine is serious and operating in that area can be fragile. It was an accidental hit, but the result just shows what a dangerous game hockey can be sometimes.
