Guentzel was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, now it appears instead he'll be signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yesterday the Lightning freed up $11 million in cap space by trading Mikhail Sergachev and Tanner Jeannot, now they're spending that money on Guentzel.
Guentzel, 29, played in 67 games between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes last season, he scored a total 77 points, including 30 goals and 47 assists.
The terms of the deal are not yet known, the Tampa Bay Lightning continue to figure out a way to sign productive forwards without giving up too much in return and honestly, this might be at Steven Stamkos replacement at this point.
