Today the Tampa Bay Lightning acquired Jake Guentzel's signing rights from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Guentzel was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, now it appears instead he'll be signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yesterday the Lightning freed up $11 million in cap space by trading Mikhail Sergachev and Tanner Jeannot, now they're spending that money on Guentzel.

Sources say #GoBolts have agreed to terms on a contract with Jake Guentzel after a productive Sunday.

Details have been hard to hard to come by as Tampa has other moving parts, and info might not come out until tomorrow.

Guentzel, 29, played in 67 games between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes last season, he scored a total 77 points, including 30 goals and 47 assists.

The terms of the deal are not yet known, the Tampa Bay Lightning continue to figure out a way to sign productive forwards without giving up too much in return and honestly, this might be at Steven Stamkos replacement at this point.
