Imane Khelif wins gold medal in boxing after weeks of controversy

Following a controversial boxing match just about a week ago, Imane Khelif is now an Olympic gold medalist.
An Italian fighter had accused Khelif of being transgender, which sparked an intense debate about trans women in sports. It was later revealed that Khelif was not trans
In the 66kg division, Khelif was able to defeat her opponents one by one. Today, she fought Yang Liu for the gold medal. In the end, she came away victorious and got to celebrate with her country.
"I'm very happy. For eight years this has been my dream and I'm now the Olympic champion and gold medallist,» Khelif said. «I've worked for eight years, no sleep, eight years tired. Now I'm Olympic champion.»
Despite the win, the discourse will likely continue as some still believe she had an unfair advantage. Only time will tell how the boxing community responds.
