Evgeny Kuznetsov Undecided on Where He'll Play in 2024-25 Season

Unrestricted free agent forward Evgeny Kuznetsov remains uncertain about where he will play in the 2024-25 campaign. Just a week ago, Kuznetsov's tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes ended after he was placed on unconditional waivers, terminating the final year of his contract by mutual agreement.

Initially, it was reported that Kuznetsov would return to Russia and sign a four-year contract with KHL club SKA St. Petersburg. However, with no official announcement from SKA St. Petersburg and their training camp starting in eight days, there is increasing speculation about Kuznetsov's next move.

In an interview with Olesya Usova of Russia's RB Sport, Kuznetsov's agent, Shumi Babayev, revealed that 15 NHL teams have expressed interest in signing the veteran forward.

Babayev said.

He added,

"He just wants to play hockey and be trusted. He still has the ability to play for many years to come. Kuznetsov is in good physical shape If there was interest in those teams that count on him and let him show his best qualities, he would also consider them."

Babayev mentioned that while Kuznetsov is leaning towards playing in Russia, his final decision is yet to be made.

"He has not made a final decision yet. Most likely, he is moving towards playing in the KHL. The man wants to play hockey and have fun, be useful and win. There are many factors here."

Kuznetsov, 32, spent 11 seasons in the NHL with the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes. He recorded 575 points (173 goals, 402 assists) and 394 penalty minutes in 743 games, along with 73 points in 97 playoff games. He was instrumental in helping the Capitals win their first Stanley Cup in 2018.

As Kuznetsov weighs his options, it will be interesting to see if any NHL team offers a deal compelling enough to sway him from returning to Russia. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining where Kuznetsov will lace up his skates for the upcoming season.
