According to an insider, the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes nearly made a big transaction around this year's trade deadline.

With trade rumors involving Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes and Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins As most NHL teams prepare for the off-season, an insider reveals that the Hurricanes and Bruins were on the verge of a big move at the trade deadline.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports that a transaction that would have sent Linus Ullmark to the Carolina Hurricanes during this year's trade deadline nearly brought the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes together.

Friedman said it's unclear if Martin Necas was involved in the discussions. Ullmark is entering the last year of his contract and has been the subject of trade rumors.

It's understandable that the Bruins wanted to see if they could transfer Ullmark, even though Friedman did clarify that he wasn't sure whether Necas was engaged in those discussions. Ullmark will be entering the final year of his contract next season.

This season, Ullmark, 30, participated in 40 games with the Bruins, compiling a 22-10-7 record with 2 shutouts, a 2.57 goals-against average, and a.915 save percentage.

This off-season will tell if this continues, but it appears that Ullmark and Necas may switch roles.
