Very important member of Dallas Stars organization passes away
Today the Dallas Stars took to their social media account to share some very sad news. Today the team shared the passing of long-time scout, Doug Overton.
It is with great sadness we share the passing of longtime Stars scout, Doug Overton.
Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill issued the following statement:
Doug was a scout's scout. He knew the league and the players as well as anyone in the business. His role in helping build the '99 championship team can't be overstated, and he will be missed by the entire hockey community.
Overton spent 18 years with the Stars organization and was a key component in drafting some of the organizations best players over the last two decades. Under Overton the team drafted the following players, Captain Jamie Benn was a fifth round pick during the 2007 draft, Trevor Daley (43rd in 2002), Jussi Jokinen (192nd 2001), Roope Hintz (49th in 2015), Jason Robertson (39th 2017) and Jake Oettinger (26th 2017).
Our condolences go out to the Overton family.
