In last night's late game, the Vancouver Canucks faced off against the San Jose Sharks, and what seemed like a potentially uneventful match turned into quite the spectacle. Despite the Canucks' recent strong performance and the Sharks' struggles, the game took an unexpected turn.

Towards the end of the second period, with Vancouver leading 1-0, forward Nils Hoglander made a play that raised eyebrows. In an altercation with Sharks forward Kevin Labanc near the benches, Hoglander forcefully threw Labanc to the ice, prompting an immediate response from the referees with the raised arm signaling a penalty.

Hoglander received a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for intent to injure, resulting in his ejection from the game a decision that aligns with the severity of the incident.

The next question looming is how the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety (DoPS) will handle this. Given the inconsistency in DoPS decisions this season, the duration of Hoglander's potential suspension remains uncertain. However, the nature of the play, marked by intent to injure and a judo-like throw, suggests this incident might result in one of the longest suspensions this season.
