When the Bruins lost captain Patrice Bergeron to retirement this summer, not only did it leave a gaping hole in the lineup, but it also left the Bruins without a captain for the 2023-24 -season.

On Tuesday, one member of the team who may be in line to receive the honour and wear the C on his chest spoke about the captaincy, revealing that he's not too concerned with. I am, of course, talking about Brad Marchand, who had this to say.

"It's not something that I really think about too much. We've always done it collectively as a group. So regardless of who wear it, it's a collective thing."

Marchand, 35, is the longest serving Bruin on the team's roster as he's set to enter his 15th NHL season, all with Boston. The Halifax native seems the likely choice to become Boston's next captain, especially given his role in the their leadership group he's held over the last few seasons.

Marchand isn't the only player in Boston who might be captain material. Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak and even someone like Charlie Coyle also make some sense. Will the Bruins name a captain before the season begins? With a little over a month until the start of the 2023-24 season, we're about to find out.
