Alexis Lafreniere signs new contract with the New York Rangers showing just how disappointed his career has been
When Alexis Lafreniere was selected by the New York Rangers he was expected to be a star. However Lafreniere has never reached the heights previously expected. Despite not reaching his full potential he is still an important part of the Rangers future. Today Rangers fans received the news they've been waiting all summer for.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers reported that the Rangers have signed former 1st-overall pick Alexis Lafreniere to a 2-year contract extension worth $4.65 million ($2.325 million AAV).
Lafreniere, 21, played in 81 games for the Rangers last season where he scored 16 goals and added 23 assists. He also logged 33 penalty minutes and was a plus-ten. In 7 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he had 0 points as the Rangers lost in the first round to the New Jersey Devils.
