Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins have been working on an extension for quite some time now, however, it doesn't seem as though it has been going anywhere.
While there have been some positive updates here and there, it seems like the negotiations have no end in sight. However, this week, fans thought the Penguins would announce an extension on Thursday, as the date reads 8/7. Of course, this is Crosby's iconic number, and it just so happens to be his birthday, as well.
The superstar turns 37 years old, and as you can see down below, the team did make an announcement in regards to Crosby, but not the one fans were hoping for.
In the tweets below, you can see that fans were disappointed by the lack of contract news. Some are even expressing concern about all of this. There were rumors that Crosby would leave the Penguins if they couldn't fast-track themselves to being contenders again. However, you can't help but feel as though some fans are getting ahead of themselves here. There is still plenty of time to get a deal done.
At the end of the day, Crosby is the greatest player in the history of the franchise and a top-five player in the history of the NHL. Only time will tell whether or not he retires with the team that drafted him.
