Conor McDavid is easily the best player in the NHL and as it stands, he is making $12.5 million per year and he has two years left on his deal.

Right now, the Oilers are in the middle of trying to sign Leon Draisaitl to a long-term deal. It is likely that Draisaitl will be making more than McDavid when all is said and done. However, as TSN reminded its readers, McDavid will be making things tough for the Oilers next season.

McDavid will be up for a long-term deal as well and he will likely want more than Draisaitl. If that happens, the Oilers will have very little cap space to work with. It's a huge problem and General Manager Stan Bowman has to figure it all out.

«Leon is a super-talented player, a huge part of what we're doing, and he has been and will be for some time and that hasn't changed at all,» Bowman said. «I think it's really hard to find stars in the NHL, so when you have them, the goal is to keep them. The same thing with Connor. Those guys are a huge reason the team's had a successful run so far, and they will be a big part of the future too.»

Do you believe that the Edmonton Oilers can figure this out and make McDavid the highest-paid player ever? Let us know in the poll down below. Additionally, stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
