New York Rangers Veterans Season Comes To An End After Brutal Injury
The news on Blake Wheeler's injury isn't promising. After a nasty fall during last night's game, he's been placed on long-term injured reserve, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
"Unfortunately, Blake Wheeler out for rest of the regular season. A postseason return is considered unlikely, although not 100 per cent ruled out depending on how far NYR go."
Though the New York Rangers haven't specified Wheeler's injury, the video suggests it could be a broken leg. The 37-year-old took a hard fall near the boards, with one leg awkwardly pinned beneath him.
Wheeler's absence will be felt by the Rangers, currently leading the Metropolitan Division and sitting just one point out of first place in the Eastern Conference.
As Wheeler's contract expires at the end of this season, this injury may mark the end of his time with the team.
