Jake Oettinger is one of the best goaltenders in the league and today, the Dallas Stars came through with a massive contract for their star.

Oettinger is getting eight years at $8.25 million AAV. This contract is identical to Jeremy Swayman's. For the Boston Bruins goaltender, this new contract may actually come as a bit of a slap in the face. Of course, he was asking for more than $66 million. However, numerous goalies have since been paid the exact same thing. For instance, Linus Ullmark got $33 million, albeit over four years giving him the same AAV as Swayman.
Either way, there is no doubt that Oettinger deserves this contract. He is someone who has helped this Stars team be Stanley Cup contenders, and there are some that have even predicted that the Stars will win it all this year.
Now, the goalie market throughout the NHL is being reset which is definitely a good thing. There are a ton of amazing goalies out there, and the next one to get paid will likely be Igor Shesterkin. Having said that, he could make over $4 million more per year than his peers. He really is in a league of his own right now.
Only time will tell whether or not any of these top-tier goalies actually win a Stanley Cup anytime soon. Sure, you can get paid the big bucks, but you have to deliver when it matters most.
