Ryan Getzlaf announces massive career change
Ryan Getzlaf is a future Hall of Famer who helped the Anaheim Ducks win their first and only Stanley Cup.
After retiring, Getzlaf went to work for the organization as a player development coordinator. However, he is now taking on a new role that will prove to be a massive challenge for him. According to the NHL, Getzlaf will be joining the league's Department of Player Safety, where he will work under the guidance of George Parros.
In a statement, George Parros revealed just how great of an addition Getzlaf is to the team. Needless to say, the Department of Player Safety has just become a whole lot stronger. Whether or not they get more popular with fans and the players, remains to be seen.
«We are thrilled to welcome Ryan as the newest member of our department," Parros said. "His accomplishments on the ice speak for themselves: he won at every level and was widely respected for being a hard-nosed and highly-skilled Player and effective leader. From his rookie NHL season in 2005 until his recent retirement, he lived and played through many of the changes our game has seen, which will provide our group with unique and valuable perspective moving forward.»
