Ryan Suter's contract is being bought out by the Dallas Stars, and after the deal is done, he will become an unrestricted free agent, according to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek.
According to Marek, the Dallas Stars will avoid paying the cap $1.4 million in 202021; nevertheless, Suter's deal will cost $1.4 million in 20242025 and 20252026.
Along with defenseman Tony DeAngelo, Suter, 39, is now the second player in the NHL to have two contract buyouts. If the native of Madison, Wisconsin is able to secure a new NHL deal, he will now receive payment from three separate teams in the upcoming season: the Dallas Stars, his new team; and the Minnesota Wild, who owe him $833,333 for the four years that follow owing to a buyout in 2021.
Suter recorded 17 points (two goals, 15 assists), 28 penalty minutes, and a plus-14 rating in 82 games with the Stars this season. In 19 postseason games, he added four more points (one goal, three assists), which helped the Stars advance to the Western Conference Final.
