Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew tragically passed away on Thursday night while riding their bicycles near their hometown of Salem, New Jersey.

They were struck by a drunk driver by the name of Sean Higgins, who now faces 20 years in prison. Shortly after the incident, a report surfaced online from disgraced journalist Dylan Robillard. Robillard eventually deleted his report as there were no other concrete sources. However, Robillard was ultimately fired from his job.

Now, it is being revealed where the initial leak truly started. According to Puck Empire on Instagram, an employee at the Medical Examiner's Office leaked the news to their friend's group chat. Once the news hit the group chat, it spread like wildfire and eventually made its way to social media. Between Thursday night and Friday morning, there was a ton of speculation as to whether or not the Gaudreau's had passed away. Tragically, the Columbus Blue Jackets eventually confirmed the news on X.

"UPDATE JOHNNY & MATTHEW GAUDREAƯS DEATH REPORT WAS LEAKED BY AN EMPLOYEE OF THE MEDICAL EXAMINER OFFICE IN THEIR FRIEND'S GROUP CHAT LAST NIGHT. THE LEAK INCLUDED THEIR ADDRESSES, & THE EMPLOYEE HAS SINCE DELETED ALL HIS SOCIAL MEDIA"

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope they are able to get the help they so desperately deserve and need right now.
