Rutger McGroarty was recently traded from the Winnipeg Jets to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and there has been quite a bit of strife about this online.

Overall, this is because McGroarty reportedly refused to play with the Jets because he thought it didn't feel right. It was a purely vibes-based decision which is the perfect analogy for Gen Z. Now, McGroarty has fans rolling their eyes thanks to his latest comments in which he praised Winnipeg.
" Winnipeg will always hold a special place in my heart," he began. "The city, the organization, and the fans were incredible to me from day one. It's where I took my first steps as a professional, and I'll never forget the support I received there."

"The Jets were instrumental in my development. They gave me a chance to play at the highest level, and I'm thankful for that. The coaching staff, my teammates, everyone was just top-notch."

"The fans in Winnipeg are some of the best in the NHL. They're so dedicated and passionate. Whether we were winning or going through tough stretches, they were always there, cheering us on. It's something you don't forget as a player. They make you feel like you're part of something bigger, and that kind of support is rare."

As you can imagine, McGroarty is being clowned pretty heavily online for these comments, especially when you consider how he didn't "feel right" playing in Winnipeg. To then go ahead and praise the fans and the organization just feels completely and utterly disingenuous.
"'I have nothing but respect for them' is a wild statement when you screwed them the way you did"

"The entitlement of a kid, who has never spent a day proving himself at the pro level, is staggering. Let's hope he goes on to have a good career, but pays a price along the way and learns about respect, ethics, and doing things like a pro should."

"Canadian teams should learn from this to not draft arrogant American College players. No class"
