Former NHL Player Victim Of Assault With A Skate
After the tragic incident involving former NHLer Adam Johnson's death during a hockey game, you'd hope to see more sportsmanship from professional players. However, a recent battle along the boards in the Swiss National League, featuring two former NHLers, took a dark turn when it seemed like one player intentionally kicked the other in the neck area.
Martin Frk, playing for Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, had Lawrence Pilut of Lausanne HC lined up for a hit near the bench. Pilut managed to avoid the hit, causing Frk to end up headfirst on his own bench. While there, Pilut gave Frk a few extra shoves, and in response, Frk started kicking his legs.
One of his skate blades came dangerously close to Pilut's neck area before the sequence ended. Frk was ejected from the game, and it looks like he might face supplemental discipline.
Thankfully, Pilut was not cut, but the blade to the chest/neck area likely wasn't a pleasant experience. Now, we await the league's decision on the number of games Frk will miss due to suspension.
