It was just a few short weeks ago that former NHLer, Michael Chaput, signed a one-year contract to remain with the KHL's Barys Astana. As we well know, in hockey, things can change quickly and now Chaput finds himself on the receiving end of a contract termination.

Per a recent report, the contract termination was mutual, with both Barys Astana and Chaput agreeing to the termination due to the fact the player requires much longer than expected to recover from an injury.

"Barys Astana (KHL) and forward Michael Chaput have mutually cut ties just a few weeks after signing a new 1-year contract.

Chaput, 31, played just 10 games last season due to an ongoing injury. It was discovered that his recovery and rehab will take significantly longer than previously expected - resulting in the termination." - Hockey Worldwide on Instagram

The Ile-Bizard, Quebec native joined the ranks of the KHL last season after playing parts of ten seasons in North America, split between the NHL and AHL. In ten games with Barys Astana, Chaput had three goals, six penalty minutes and was a minus-three.

Chaput suited up in 182 NHL games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes, recording 22 points. He also racked up 88 penalty minutes.

Wishing Chaput a swift recovery and we hope that he'll be able to play somewhere at some point next season.
