While appearing on Sportsnet 960 radio, Luke Gazdic shareshas heard that long-time Oilers forward and 1,000+ game NHL veteran Sam Gagner will be returning to Edmonton, this time on a PTO.
Gagner, 34, was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers 6th overall in 2007 and spent the first seven years of his career there. Gagner returned to Edmonton in a trade with Vancouver in February 2019, before being dealt to Detroit just a year later.
In 542 games with the Oilers, the London, Ontario native has 111 goals and 206 assists.
The Oilers are hoping to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year. This summer, Ken Holland has added Connor Brown, Drake Caggiula and Lane Pederson in free agency, but he still needs to get Evan Bouchard signed to a new deal.
It looks like the #Oilers are turning to a long-time journeyman they originally drafted in Sam Gagner.
The team is reportedly going to give him a PTO for the 202324 training camp.
