Last season, the Vancouver Canucks shut down the newly signed forward Ilya Mikheyev in January due to injury. At the time, General Manager Patrik Allvin indicated that Mikheyev would be healthy to start this season. However, after just a few days of training camp, Mikheyev left the team for personal reasons' yet is not on the injured reserve. Now, fans and media are wondering what's ailing Mikheyev, whose agent has now stepped up to answer these questions.
Fans of the Canucks began to express concern that the team allowed Mikheyev play injured through meaningless games last season, and now leading to him being unavailable to start the season.
In addition, just days before Mikheyev was shut down last season, the Canucks and the NHLPA announced an investigation had been launched into the handling of Tanner Pearson's injury. It seems that Pearson's problem, combined with Mikheyev's similar situation, prompted Mikheyev's agent Dan Milstein to release a statement.
"Re: Ilya Mikheyev #Canucks
Good evening, I wanted to clear up Ilya Mikheyev's injury situation in Vancouver. Every player heals differently. He's been working very hard to get ready, just needs a bit more time and then will be back in the lineup. The Canucks have been great in working with Ilya during his surgery and rehabilitation. I know he soon will be ready and hungry to play. #WeAreGoldStar!
It's not improbable to believe that the Canucks organization asked for this statement to be released from Milstein. Regardless, if Mikheyev misses more than a couple weeks, these questions will arise again.
