Facing numerous challenges in 2021, prospect Luke Prokop made a significant decision by coming out as the first openly gay player under an NHL contract during the summer. The NHL community's response was a mix of reactions, but acceptance prevailed.

Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews was quick to extend a warm welcome, with Prokop receiving supportive messages from prominent figures like Elton John, Jake DeBrusk, and Matthews via text.

«Hey, it's Auston Matthews. I wanted to congratulate you. I look forward to sharing the ice with you someday.»

Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2020 NHL draft and a two-time WHL champion, Prokop spent most of the 2023-2024 season in the ECHL. Recently called up to the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, the Predators' affiliate, Prokop, a 6'6" 220 lb shutdown defenseman, combines defensive prowess with a scoring touch.

«No announcers jinx tonight! It's Prokop!»

With five points and two goals in nine ECHL games, Prokop, as a transition/shutdown defenseman, aspires to further develop in the AHL, aiming for an eventual ascent to the NHL.
