Connor McDavid is the best player in the entire National Hockey League and next year, he is expected to get paid like it.

His deal is expiring soon and yesterday, Leon Draisaitl signed the richest deal in the history of the NHL. Eight years at $14 million AAV is nothing to sneeze at. Draisaitl certainly deserves it, however, fans know that this means McDavid is about to make a killing.
Interestingly enough, Edmonton Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson made some peculiar comments months ago as it pertains to McDavid. Essentially, he noted that McDavid could very well be part of the Draisaitl negotiation process. Not in the sense that McDavid has a say in the contract, but in the sense that both players are on the same page about sticking around in Edmonton. Having said that, it seems clear that McDavid's intention is to sign with the Oilers for the future.
"Look, these guys are very close friends. They're confidants of each other, they share lots. I know that because I was with Connor for years as his agent, and I know the deep relationship that Leon and Connor have. There's probably going to be a time where we sit down with both of them and chat.

Connor's not going to be involved in a negotiation involving Leon, but . . . I'm sure we're gonna meet and talk about things, and not do it in a vacuum."

McDavid is expected to make north of $15 million per year with his next deal. With Draisaitl getting $14 million, it is easy to see how this figure would come about. Moreover, a new CBA is on the way which means the salary cap is likely to increase. No matter what, this should be a very interesting year for the Oilers.
Do you believe Connor McDavid is going to be making over $15 million on his next contract? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
