Andrew Cogliano makes announcement on his hockey future
Andrew Cogliano has made the decision to hang up his skates after 17 seasons in the National Hockey League with five different organizations.
In a message on social media, the Avalanche announced Cogliano's retirement, praising him for his long career and thanking him for his influence on the team both on and off the ice.
"Thank you Cogs for continuously making an impact on and off the ice.
Congratulations on an outstanding career." The Avalanche said in a post on X.
On the team's website, they announced that Cogliano will stay with the team in a number of different roles including player development, amateur and professional scouting and will help out with their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles.
"Cogliano will be joining the Avalanche front office where he will assist in a variety of roles, including player development, professional and amateur scouting, as well as working with the American Hockey League's Colorado Eagles."
Regarding his announcement of his retirement from the National Hockey League, Cogliano expressed his gratitude for each and every experience and organization he had the privilege of working with over his 17 seasons. He went on to say that while he will miss fighting with his teammates, he is excited for his upcoming chapter in the Avalanche's front office.
"The game of hockey has given me and my family so much and I am grateful for every moment," said Cogliano. "I am blessed to have played for so long with some great organizations and amazing teammates. I will miss being with the guys in the dressing room and battling for each other on the ice every night but it's time to move on. Thank you to everyone I ever played with, played for and all the great fans for all of their support. I am excited to start my new chapter in the front office."
With Edmonton, Anaheim, Dallas, San Jose, and Colorado throughout his 1,294 regular season appearances in the NHL, the 37-year-old has 464 points (190 goals, 274 assists) and 449 penalty minutes. In 131 postseason games, Cogliano scored 40 points, which helped Colorado win their third Stanley Cup in team history in 2022.
