Yaroslav Askarov came through with a trade request earlier this week as he told the Nashville Predators and Barry Trotz that he would not report to training camp.

At the time, Trotz made a statement claiming that Askarov would not be traded and that he was expected to come to camp. However, the situation was untenable, and it was only a matter of time before the team cut its losses and decided to make some kind of deal.

With numerous teams vying for Askarov, a trade has officially been made. According to Eliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, it is the San Jose Sharks that have acquired the goaltender. The details of the trade have not yet come in, although we imagine the Predators got a decent return.

Askarov was the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. During the last few years, he has played for the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, however, he wanted a real shot at playing NHL hockey. Now, he will have that opportunity as he goes to a team that is desperate to improve in goal.

Do you believe that this is a good trade for the San Jose Sharks? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
