However, Gretzky is now the victim of a rampant social media scam that has been making waves on X, formerly Twitter. For those who may not have noticed, ever since Elon Musk took over, the website has been inundated with horrible ads. Many of these advertisements contain "headlines" to news articles. Moreover, there is usually an edited photo for the thumbnail, and it misleads people into thinking something horrible happened.
As Derek Neumeier pointed out on X, this is now happening to The Great One. Below, you can see what appears to be a thumbnail from a news broadcast. In the image, Gretzky looks overweight and is being arrested. Furthermore, the caption reads "The Scandal That Shocked All of Canada." Another caption asks if Gretzky's career is over.
Of course, none of what is being stated here is true. It's all false, and it is made to dupe people who may not know any better. One can only imagine the kinds of viruses you might get for clicking on something like that. It would also be interesting to know who is making this kind of stuff.
Only time will tell if Twitter takes action and begins banning accounts that partake in this kind of scam. It's only a matter of time before one of the victims of the scam takes legal action. Hopefully, it won't have to come to that.
