Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were killed last night after a driver struck them off of their bicycles just outside of their hometown of Salem, New Jersey.

The entire hockey world is in mourning and the story has become international news. Even sports figures like LeBron James have weighed in on all of this. It's all very heartbreaking and fans have been thinking about Gaudreau's family. His sister was set to get married this weekend, and now, she must think about the loss of her two brothers.
Moments ago, Jim Gaudreau, the uncle of Johnny and Matthew, released a statement about their passing. He spoke on how they were amazing fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, and friends. Their lives were taken way too soon.
"Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers ... two friends, but truly two amazing humans. We want to let everyone know we are receiving your messages and love and support. We appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers. We ask for your continued privacy during this very difficult period of grief."
The Columbus Blue Jackets also put out a statement on the passing of the Gaudreaus. This statement was also incredibly heartbreaking and just serves as a reminder of what Johnny Hockey meant to so many people.
"Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets. He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could. The impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound, but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him. Johnny embraced our community when he arrived two years ago, and Columbus welcomed him with open arms. We will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy."

Our heart continues to go out to the Gaudreau family. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we hope they get justice. As it stands, the man responsible for their deaths is in custody.
