Following his removal from Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final due to a hit by Leon Draisaitl, Aleksander Barkov has received an update from Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice.

The head coach of the Florida Panthers, Paul Maurice, has given an update on star player Aleksander Barkov, who departed game two after being hit by Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl. The 2024 Stanley Cup Final will be played in Edmonton for the next two games.

About halfway into Florida's 4-1 victory over Edmonton in the third period, Draisaitl was handed a two-minute penalty. Barkov left the game and didn't return.

Maurice spoke with reporters today and said as far as he can tell, Barkov has not gotten any worse, which is a good sign.

"We had some things that needed to be looked at today that got looked at. There's nothing sinister there. He kind of passed that. He felt better today. Feels good. But you've got to give it another 24 hours to make sure that he feels strong."

"If this was a regular season game I think the league would probably be looking at this differently. Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final presents a diff scenario when you consider the lack of history with Draisaitl. Not anticipating a suspension."

Game 3 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final takes place Thursday night in Edmonton, with game 4 going on Saturday night. So far, Barkov had been a major factor in shutting down Edmonton's Connor McDavid, and Draisaitl, two of the most dangerous offensive hockey players on the planet.
