The Vancouver Canucks reportedly made Elias Lindholm an offer of a seven-year contract for $7 million per season ($49 million total) on Monday's Jeff Marek Show, but the Swedish forward reportedly turned it down.
Elias Lindholm may be inclined to hit the open market on July 1st rather than re-sign with the team, which is a significant development for General Manager Patrik Allvin and the Canucksespecially if he's turning down a contract of that magnitude.
In addition to a first-round pick and one of their greatest prospects, Hunter Brzustewicz, who has emerged as one of the OHL's top offensive defensemen in recent seasons, the Canucks had to pay a high price to get Lindholm from the Calgary Flames.
Boden, Sweden native Lindholm had a lackluster regular season with the Canucks, managing just 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 26 games. However, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he excelled, tallying 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 13 games.
Though it's still possible that Allvin and the Canucks might work something out with Elias Lindholm and his camp before the free agency market starts in 20 days, as of right now, it appears that Allvin will become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day.
