Even though there is still hockey to be played in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a number of teams have already chosen their executives and coaches for the upcoming 202425 campaign. A few positions in each category are still open, and also provides an update on the whereabouts of the two suspended individuals.
Both coach Joel Quenneville and GM Stan Bowman resigned from their positions after the Kyle Beach assault investigation was concluded. At the time, Quenneville and Bowman were members of the Blackhawks; however, Quenneville had previously left the team to take a coaching position with the Florida Panthers. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman stated at the time that in order for both to be allowed to resume their employment in the league, they would need to talk with him directly. Reporters were just updated on that by Bettman, who stated that Quenneville and Bowman will not be returning anytime soon.
If Quenneville was restored, there's no doubt he would be working days or even hours. He is regarded as a championship NHL coach who has the ability to bring out the best in his players. According to Bettman, Quenneville and Bowman have both inquired about being let to rejoin the league.
Quenneville resigned from the Panthers in 2021, saying the Blackhawks let Kyle Beach down, and that "I own my share of that."
