Insider Confirms What Two Cities The NHL Is Most Likely To Expand To Next
Dave Pagnotta, an NHL insider, recently dropped some exciting news for hockey fans. It looks like the league is gearing up for expansion, and two cities have emerged as frontrunners to land the next NHL teams.
Pagnotta shared that while things have been pretty quiet on the expansion front due to the focus on the deadline, there's buzz building around Atlanta and Salt Lake City as the next locations for NHL teams.
"It's been a bit quieter on the expansion chatter lately, because of the deadline, but it's sounding like there's continued progress towards Atlanta 3.0 and word of a proposed arena district seems to have Sept/Oct timeline. Utah 33. Atlanta 34."
The wait for an official announcement seems tied to the development of a new arena in Atlanta. Once there's more clarity on when the arena will be ready, we can expect things to start moving quickly. Based on the current pace, it looks like these teams would likely start competing in the 2025-26 season, though the 2026-27 season might be a more realistic target.
