Free agent goalie wants to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs
There have been rumors circulating that veteran goalie Laurent Brossoit is very keen to accept a short-term contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In the weeks leading up to the NHL's free agency period, teams are trying to figure out how to best set themselves up for the upcoming campaign. The Toronto Maple Leafs are already in the process of finding their next goalkeeper. The Maple Leafs are searching for a replacement for
Ilya Samsonov, as
Joseph Woll is already under contract for the upcoming campaign.
When the games counted most last season, Woll, who had battled through injuries, was in the starting lineup. Regretfully, the goalie sustained a serious injury just seconds before the finish of game six. The only thing keeping Woll from taking the starting net has been injuries.
As reports circulate, the Maple Leafs are currently looking for insurance and are considering both tandem alternatives and starters. The veteran goalie Laurent Brossoit may have made the search for a Maple Leaf a little bit simpler, as he has apparently suffered a significant injury since joining the team.
There is mutual interest with former Knights and Jets goalie Laurent Brossoit and the Maple Leafs.
A potential deal for Brossoit is believed to be a shorter-term deal with an AAV of around $3M.
At 31, Brossoit's main goal is to join a strong team where he can get frequent starts, and he believes the Leafs could be that team.

In 23 games last season Brossoit posted a 15-5-2 record with a goals against average of 2.00 and a .927 save percentage. The 31-year-old also posted 3 shutouts and would be a perfect solution for the Maple Leafs. When the time comes, the Maple Leafs will likely have to act fast as it is expected that Brossoit will be highly coveted.
