The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly told other NHL clubs that Mitch Marner is available for a trade and that they won't ask him to forego his no-movement clause until they receive a suitably-sized offer, according to Steve Simmons.
If Mitch Marner does sign with the Maple Leafs this summer, it will be a major event and a difficult one to handle. First of all, Marner is fully free to move wherever he pleases and cannot go. This is known as his no-movement clause.
Second, unless he signs an agreement before July 1st, 2025, Marner will have a very high cap hit of $10.9 million for the 20242025 season before becoming an unrestricted free agency the following year.
Despite his setbacks, particularly during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Marner remains one of the NHL's most promising players. It will also be challenging since Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs executives have probably set a high price when they think they'll move him.
In 69 games this season, Marner, 27, finished with 26 goals, 59 assists, 18 penalty minutes, and a plus-21 rating. He then contributed one goal and two assists in seven postseason contests.
Every year, as we approach the Entry Draft and the start of free agency, trade discussions are sure to heat up, and all eyes will be on the Maple Leafs to see if they decide to sell Mitch Marner.
