Jacob Wasserman a former goaltender for the Broncos who survived the horrific bus crash has officially achieved his dream. The crash left Wasserman with serious injuries and as a paraplegic. Wasserman has taken everything in stride and has used it for motivation and qualified for the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympic Games in late August and early September.
Being able to qualify for an international competition is quite remarkable, but it's amazing to see someone live out their dreams after something as awful as what Wassermann did. Though in a different sport, he had always dreamed of representing Canada, and he is quite proud of what he has managed to do.
" For 18 years I was going to be a pro hockey player. That was the one goal and it had to change and it was sort of difficult for sure at first, but I really learned if you keep going forward with the dreams that you had, they'll work out for you,"
He humbly credits his support system including his wife Madison, his parents and his coaches for the success he's achieved in just a short time "It's been so special to see the support and the excitement from so many people, like everybody from around here, from around home and then around the world that I've never even met before."
The twenty-four-year-old recognizes that the journey has just begun and that the work he puts in back in Saskatchewan has the potential to define how well he competes when his number is called in Paris. It's not quite the same as he imagined growing up, but it's a moment he won't soon forget.
