Don Cherry Shares Controversial Take On Morgan Rielly Cross-Check
Hockey icon Don Cherry recently weighed in on the contentious incident involving Morgan Rielly and Ridley Greig, sparking further debate within the hockey community.
Expressing his thoughts on the matter, Cherry addressed Rielly's questionable hit on Greig, which occurred after the latter scored with a slap shot into an empty net. Despite Rielly's actions drawing criticism, Cherry appeared to support the Maple Leafs' defenseman.
"I'm glad Rielly was on and I'm glad he did it. I know there's no rule in the book that says 'Don't do that' but you just don't do that."
"It was a spur of the moment thing that did. I think he meant to get him on the shoulder but he got him on the back of the neck."
While acknowledging the spur-of-the-moment nature of Rielly's actions, Cherry suggested that the defenseman may have intended to target Greig's shoulder but inadvertently made contact with the back of his neck.
