Dillon Dube, one of five former members of Team Canada from the 2018 World Junior Championships charged with assault, has signed a new deal to continue his career
After not receiving a qualifying offer from the Calgary Flames, one of the players charged in an incident stemming from the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship, has signed a new deal. Dillon Dube was the captain of Team Canada at the 2018 WJC, and one of five players from the team charged with assault.
Dube, along with Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton have all been charged with assault stemming from an alleged incident at a party celebrating Canada's gold medal win at the 2018 World Juniors a couple of months after the victory. None of the allegations have been proven in court, and all five have said they will plead not guilty. Formenton left the NHL before the beginning of last season to play in Europe. The other four all took leaves of absence from their respective NHL teams in February of this year. They are all now free agents after not getting NHL qualifying offers.
It was expected that Hart would be the most likely candidate to sign a deal outside of the NHL. So far, that hasn't happened. Dube played for Team Canada twice at the World Juniors, winning silver in 2017 along with the gold in 2018.
