Back in 2019, Perry was bought out by the Ducks and subsequently signed with the Dallas Stars. On the Missin Curfew podcast, Perry spoke about the circumstances surrounding the buyout. Essentially, his agent invited him to dinner in Toronto where the news would be broken to him. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan as Perry heard about it through social media.
Despite all of this, Perry notes that he and the Ducks were cordial on the way out. At the time, he had been through knee surgery and was getting up there in age. He also had two years left on his deal, and he understood the decision even if it did break his heart a little bit.
In 1,311 games, Perry has scored 429 goals, while adding 476 assists, adding up to a total of 905 points. He also has one Stanley Cup victory as well as two Olympic Gold medals. He has a decent Hall of Fame case although only time will tell whether or not he gets in.
As for his future in the league, Perry is 39 years old and is very likely entering the last stage of his career. He seems content with the Edmonton Oilers and it would not be surprising to watch him retire with the franchise.
