Tony DeAngelo was bought out nearly a year to the day he was traded from the Carolina Hurricanes to the Philadelphia Flyers. It was the second time in his career he's had his contract bought out, but according to DeAngelo this time is different.

After being bought out DeAngelo sat down with the media to discuss what went wrong in Philadelphia and which failed relationship was to blame for his contract termination.
Obviously the coach and I wound up not fitting together, I guess that would be the main reason for leaving the team and being a free agent again.

I've been bought out again which is disappointing, but there were different factors that led to that a little bit. As far as controversy I feel like that's all in the past. I guess there was some controversy this year you could call it, just not being on the same page as the head coach. But there was no personal feelings, nothing personal happened or something big happened to lead to anything, it was kind of just a mutual disagreement on a bunch of things that I won't get into.
Monday, DeAngelo signed a 1 year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. The deal is worth $1,675,000 for the season, which is nearly $1,000,000 in savings for the Hurricanes over what was reported in their failed trade with the Flyers.
DeAngelo, 27, had a solid season offensively, scoring 11 goals and 31 assists. He added 73 penalty minutes, but it was his lack of defensive zone play that truly led to his fractured relationship with Tortorella.
This season is very important for DeAngelo, a failure to catch on with the Hurricanes could mark the end of his hockey career. If he can't prove he's worth the side show that comes with him, then most teams likely will never take another chance on the defender.
