The Boston Bruins and RFA winger Trent Frederic have reportedly come to terms on a multi-year deal on Tuesday that will allow the two parties to avoid salary arbitration. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins and Frederic have settled on a 2-year deal worth $2.3M per season.

The Bruins were sitting around $5.4M in available cap space prior to Frederic's new deal, leaving them with around $3.1M in cap space with goaltender Jeremy Swayman yet to sign his extension.
The problem in all of this is that Swayman's arbitration ask is $4.8M and one of his closest comparables, Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov, was recently awarded $3.55M in salary arbitration. If Swayman gets anything close to that in his arbitration case, it will put the Bruins over the cap and force a move that maybe they wouldn't otherwise have made.
An even bigger problem may be emerging here as well. The Bruins have lost some pretty important pieces this summer, including Tyler Bertuzzi, Dmitry Orlov, Taylor Hall, Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci and they don't currently have the cap space to address some of these gaping holes left behind by the abovementioned departures.
