Rocky Wirtz, one of the primary owners of the Chicago Blackhawks passed away last week. Before his passing though the Wirtz Corporation was already working hard on a new deal. The deal was to see the Wirtz Corporation become an owner of Chicago based junior team the Chicago Steel.

According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Chicago Blackhawks ownership group have officially made the major addition to their portfolio portfolio. Wirtz Corporation is reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League.
"Wirtz Corporation is purchasing the Chicago Steel of the USHL, a source familiar with negotiations confirmed to The Athletic on Saturday. The source asked to speak anonymously because the deal has yet to be finalized." Powers said.

The Steel were founded in the year 2000 after being relocated from Fargo-Moorhead. The team had gone on to win two Clark Cup championships in 2017 and 2021. Their team has produced some current young NHL talent including 2021 first-overall pick Owen Power, 2023 third-overall pick Adam Fantilli as well as Montreal Canadiens forward Sean Farrell.
