Recreational league player narrowly avoids being crushed by falling HVAC equipment
For those who play rec league hockey, you'll know that risk of injury is actually very low. Still, accidents can happen at any point in time. Case in point, a freak accident at an arena earlier this week nearly cost a rec league player his life.
B/R Open Ice's Jonny Lazarus shared a video this week that was submitted to him via Twitter, in which a falling HVAC system nearly crushed a rec league defenseman as he skated backward into his own defensive zone.
"Just had this video sent to me from last night at Chelsea Piers.
A pretty strong defensive strategy here from the team in white 😂
(In all seriousness, very happy nobody was hurt)

Anyone who has been inside of an arena knows how high the vaulted ceilings are. An HVAC system falling from that height could have caused some very serious damage to a human body - even one wearing a helmet and other protective hockey equipment. While nobody was hurt in the incident, it was very, very close to a different outcome.
I'm sure these players are counting their blessings. After all, the last thing anyone is thinking about when playing recreational hockey is falling HVAC systems.
