The NHL's Department of Player Safety wasted no time in responding to New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba's controversial play on Saturday. However, it's evident that many believe the league fell short in adequately safeguarding its players in this particular instance.

In case you missed it, Trouba executed what can only be likened to a baseball swing with his stick aimed at the head of Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic during their Saturday afternoon matchup.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety swiftly handed Trouba a $5,000 fine for high-sticking. Here's a replay of the incident:

Following the decision, NHL personalities Ron MacLean and Kevin Bieksa from Hockey Night in Canada shared their thoughts during the broadcast, making it clear they felt justice was not served.

MacLean openly questioned the severity of the punishment, exclaiming,

"That's unbelievable, how can that only be a $5,000 fine?"
Bieksa's colorful description of Trouba's swing left little room for interpretation.

"Jacob Trouba Fred Flintstone's Trent Frederic with a bit of a follow-through," remarked Bieksa. "The Rangers won this game, but we will probably be talking about the Trouba Fred Flintstone for a while."

Former NHL goaltender Kelly Hrudey seemed to align with these sentiments, expressing a simple but resounding "Right!" as his co-hosts voiced their opinions.
