The wild relationship between the Boston Bruins and their young forward Jake DeBrusk is once again reaching a boiling point, as tonight the team has announced he will be scratched for tonight's game against the LA Kings for violating team rules. Head coach Jim Montgomery was honest with reporters, and said that DeBrusk was late for a team meeting, and will miss tonight's game as a consequence.
DeBrusk entered the NHL with the Bruins in 2018 after being drafted by the team two years prior, in the first round, 14th overall. He had some promise to begin his career before beginning to sputter in 2020. Since then, there's been frequent trade rumours surround DeBrusk, and he even formally requested a trade in 2021. Instead of parting ways, DeBrusk went on a hot streak, and played well enough to earn a contract extension with the Bruins. Being an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season however, DeBrusk needs to maintain his play, and not miss games due to team rules.
DeBrusk's current deal carries a cap hit of $3.675 million in 2023-24.
