New York Rangers star in legal trouble in Sweden

According to court documents filed, Zibanejad and Kalgoum put up their houses as collateral for a business loan taken out by the CEO of a burger chain the two had invested in. That loan has not been paid back, and the creditor has now filed a lawsuit.

The name of the burger chain, Brödernas, means "Brothers" in Swedish. The two share a mother, but have different fathers. It is not the first time Zibanejad and Kalgoum have gone into business together. Kalgoum represented Zibanejad as his agent when he signed an eight year, $68 million contract extension with the New York Rangers in 2021. Kalgoum is a former hockey player who now owns his own hockey agency.

According to the court documents, the $410,000 USD loan has yet to be paid back. They state that the defendants have disputed the payment obligation and the parties have discussed the possibility of reaching a settlement, but failed.

The properties listed in the lawsuit are worth between $275,000 and $500,000 USD. The brothers have yet to respond to the filing.
