According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Sharks could be one of the most active teams in trade discussions this season. One name at the top of the list is their veteran star and captain, Logan Couture.
Now 34 years old, Couture has played his entire 14-year career with the San Jose Sharks, who drafted him in the 2007 NHL entry draft at seventh overall. In 927 career games, Couture has an impressive 323 goals and 700 total points.
Couture is on a massive, anchor of a contract for his age and decreasing production - the type of problem that landed the Sharks in a lengthy rebuild. Couture still has 4 more years left paying him $8M annually, and a 27-team no trade list. His contract size and trade protection makes Couture significantly hard to move, but it seems new general manager Mike Grier is up to the task after trading Erik Karlsson this offseason.
Couture is currently sidelined with an injury, which caused him to miss all of training camp, but did get onto the ice in recent days. He's unlikely to suit up for San Jose's season opener on Thursday, October 12th against the Vegas Golden Knights.
