The pressure of being a professional hockey head coach can become too much sometimes. For the head coach of HC Ajoie in the Swiss National League Christian Wohlwend this was the case, during a recent game against Fribourg-Gottéron.
With his team down 3-1 in the final minutes, Wohlwend began taunting the opposing team, Fribourg-Gottéron. Wohlwend make crying faces at the opponent, while also making fun of Fribourg-Gottéron's head coach, making remarks on his hair and clothes while calling him a "f--king clown."
Wohlend received a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the game. He's since been fined the equivalent of $5800 USD. Still, he seems adamant this wasn't entirely his fault, and that the opposing coach was just as bad.
HC Ajoie are currently in the basement of the National League. The pressure of losing his job could be the main cause for Wohlend to lose his cool. Wohlend is on his third team in the National League as head coach, having previously been employed by Lugano, and HC Davos.
