Prabhraj (Prab) Rai, selected in the 5th round (131st overall) by Vancouver in 2008, faces accusations from the RCMP in Surrey, B.C., who claim he conned people out of "several million dollars" following a complaint made over two years ago.
Rai is also in the midst of a lawsuit from a realtor who asserts that Rai, claiming connections with retired hockey players and successful businesspeople, persuaded them to invest $2.8 million in real estate and other ventures.
Rai allegedly informed them that the investments were profitable but tied up by the U.S. government. In response, Rai contends that the realtor had been trying to get involved with him for years and grew upset when Rai attempted to limit their connection.
Despite Rai's promising junior career with the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds and signing an entry-level contract with Vancouver, his hockey journey peaked in the ECHL, where he spent parts of three seasons before deciding to retire.
