A former hockey player drafted by the Vancouver Canucks is under investigation for his alleged involvement in a multi-million-dollar real estate fraud case.

Prabhraj (Prab) Rai, selected in the 5th round (131st overall) by Vancouver in 2008, faces accusations from the RCMP in Surrey, B.C., who claim he conned people out of "several million dollars" following a complaint made over two years ago.
"Police believe that Rai committed large-scale financial fraud between Oct. 9, 2015, and July 20, 2018."

"He has been released by the courts on conditions pending his next court appearance."

Rai is also in the midst of a lawsuit from a realtor who asserts that Rai, claiming connections with retired hockey players and successful businesspeople, persuaded them to invest $2.8 million in real estate and other ventures.
Rai allegedly informed them that the investments were profitable but tied up by the U.S. government. In response, Rai contends that the realtor had been trying to get involved with him for years and grew upset when Rai attempted to limit their connection.
Despite Rai's promising junior career with the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds and signing an entry-level contract with Vancouver, his hockey journey peaked in the ECHL, where he spent parts of three seasons before deciding to retire.
