BREAKING: NHL Superstar Officially Meets With A Contending Team
In a surprising turn of events, free-agent winger Patrick Kane is actively exploring his future in the NHL, engaging in discussions with the Toronto Maple Leafs despite the team's playoff struggles over the past decade. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger provides insights into the ongoing talks, indicating that Kane and his agent, Pat Brisson, have conducted meetings, including Zoom calls, with the Maple Leafs. As Kane inches closer to a decision, Brisson is poised to notify certain teams that they are no longer in consideration.
Originally expected early this week, Kane's decision may be delayed until the following week, citing complexities, especially during the U.S. Thanksgiving week. Previous reports hinted at interest from teams such as the Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and Florida Panthers.
The 34-year-old winger is on the brink of a comeback following hip resurfacing surgery on June 1. The recovery timeline, estimated at four to six months, aligns with a conditioning routine video released by Brisson on September 27.
In the last season, Kane played for both the Chicago Blackhawks and the New York Rangers after a trade deadline move. Over 73 games with the two teams, he scored 21 goals and amassed 57 points. In the playoffs, Kane contributed one goal and six points in seven games as the Rangers were eliminated in the first round.
Drafted first overall by the Blackhawks in the 2007 draft, Kane played a pivotal role in securing three Stanley Cups for the franchise (2010, 2013, and 2015), earning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013. Kane's illustrious career includes various individual accolades, such as the Hart, Art Ross, and Calder trophies, along with the Ted Lindsay Award.
