Fleury salutes Montreal crowd for possibly the final time
The Minnesota Wild faced off against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre. The game may have signified the final time that legendary goalie Marc-Andre Fleury may play in his home province of Quebec.
Fleury had an amazing game for the Wild, in his season debut. Fleury made 27 saves on 29 shots to earn the victory as Minnesota downed Montreal, 5-2.
Post game, it was announced that Marc-Andre Fleury was the first star of the night and the fans remaining at the Bell Centre gave him a much deserved standing ovation after he came back onto the ice to salute the crowd.
Fleury, the Sorel native is one of the best goaltenders to come from Quebec, since Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy, so those fans still at the Bell Centre after the game were able to show their love for the longtime NHLer for potentially the last time.
Fleury is in the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2024. It's unclear if Fleury will play beyond this season, but regardless, whenever he decides to hang up the skates, he'll be a first ballot inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
