Avs superstar beats out several deserving candidates, named cover athlete for EA NHL24
In the video game world, sports games are a staple for almost everyone. If you're a football fan, Madden is the ticket. If you're into baseball, it's MLB's "The Show". For the NHL, it's the EA NHL franchise.
Each and every year, players are selected to grace the covers of these games, which is huge for their own personal brand. This year, Cale Makar's brand recognition will go through the roof as the Avs defenseman has been named the cover athlete for EA NHL24.
"All Hail Cale 🥬 #NHL24
Stanley Cup Champ, Norris Winner, and your official NHL 24 Cover Athlete
See the full reveal 8/16"
Makar is the third player in franchise history to be on the cover of an NHL video game and the first in 20 years. In 2004, Avalanche captain Joe Sakic replaced Dany Heatley on the cover and in 1998, Peter Forsberg was featured as the cover athlete. Makar is the first defenseman in Avs history to grace the cover of an EA NHL game.
Makar is certainly deserving of the honour as a former Norris Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy winner and a Stanley Cup champion. Congrats to Cale on his selection.
